I’m Xavier Villaluz, a recent undergraduate of San Francisco State University with a Bachelor's degree in Studio Art; I would call myself a multi-faceted artist. I found a great love for the arts during my time at a now defunct program that was called the Youth Institute(YI). I have an intense interest in multiple mediums and can struggle to decide on which to use at any given point. However, I do have an exceptionally soft spot for pottery after taking an intro ceramics class; we’ve been inseparable since.
During the summer of 2022, I participated in a CSU Summer Arts class in Germany. Over the course of three weeks I completed a ceramic scavenger hunt from ideation to installation. During my last semester of college, I assisted the ceramic studio tech to further my operating studio knowledge. I have since worked in tile production, learning about glaze chemistry.
In general, I have been increasingly interested in interactive art and what I can do with my art to encourage the viewer to move outside the usual walled galleries. Another major goal of mine it to convert more of my practice toward the local level. For instance, where I can become intimately familiar with my local clays and rely as little as possible on mines for additional materials.
